Mince

Crêpe with Chocolate sauce and Fruits

…First of all, With a heart full of gratitude, I thank you for your kind words of condolence. Your thoughtfulness touched me and helped me.

_DSC1427Mince means thin in French. ‘Je parle un peu le français’ I speak bit of French…It was totally a waste of my time to have minored in French in college. I remember so little. Excusez-moi for not studying hard but how in the world and why did they teach us French grammar first? But even more laughable, the very first lesson of the required English class in middle school went like ‘This is a pen’ hum… pretty lame isn’t it? Why not start us with Hello?  Then you could state your name like… my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die…just kidding._DSC1421

Thin French pancakes ‘crêpe’ show up on the Saturday morning scene quite often in our household. One of my husband’s specialties. The crinkling sounds of newspaper, blender churning, chomp, chomp the rhythm of knife hitting the cutting board, time slows for the moment. We have an agenda today but not until 2:00 in the afternoon._DSC1423

Ingredients for 10 to 12 crepes

Equipment: blender, non-stick pan 10 inch or larger

  • 1-1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1-1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  1. Put flour, eggs and milk in the blender and give it whirl until all mixed. Then add melted butter. Blend well, approximately 1 minute.
  2. Warm pan at medium heat, pour about 1/4 cup of batter in the pan. Tilt pan to coat entire bottom of pan with batter._DSC1411
  3. Cook until the edges pull away from the pan and it develops a light brown color on the bottom. Flip to brown other side. Turn onto a plate.
  4. Serve with chocolate sauce (recipe below), honey or maple syrup  We like to have with lots of fruits. Bon appetite!_DSC1406_DSC1419

Variation; Add lemon rind to the batter or sprinkle onto batter for fresh taste.

Chocolate sauce

  • 1 bag of Guittard milk chocolate chips
  • Cream about 1/2 cup

Place chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and pour cream over it. Microwave for 1 minute or so until chocolate melts. Stir the mixture well.

Enjoy the Irish music and please watch short video of the process of making crepes.

Crepes

I appreciate every email, card, flower and visit last week expressing sympathy from friends. _DSC1387

Soon my husband and I will be taking a (this time planned) trip to see our daughter and her family. I can’t wait to hold our grand children there.

  10. Your crêpes look terrific! I prepare crêpes quite rarely but I usually eat half of them while frying ;-) they are so delicious even without any filling.
In most countries school language classes are useless (as someone who goes often to Japan and speaks only basic Japanese I cannot imagine everyone has English classes there!). It was the same in my case: too much grammar, useless sentences, etc..
Have a wonderful time with your daughter!
